From Starlight to Sundries: A Fused Glass Symphony – An Artist Statement Created by me & Baird AI-

In my studio, where fire meets imagination, I’m not just an artist, I’m a conductor. I orchestrate a symphony of light and texture, using sheet glass as my canvas, powdered glass as my notes, frit as my percussion, and various adornments as my flourishes. My pieces, both decorative and functional, are testaments to the transformative power of molten alchemy.

Sheet glass, in its pristine clarity, is my starting point – a blank stage waiting for the drama of color. I shatter it, layer it, manipulate it with heat, coaxing forth mesmerizing landscapes within its depths. Powdered glass, like stardust, adds depth and dimension, its fine particles whispering secrets of light. Frit, those tiny bursts of color, become my playful percussion section, adding rhythm and texture to the composition.

And then, the adornments – the unexpected instruments that elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary. Mica, colored vitrigraph & metal dance like a ballerina across the surface, while dichroic accents shimmer with otherworldly luminescence. Wire & beads whisper tales of delicate pathways, while found objects become talismans of personal stories embedded within the glass.

The functional pieces sing a different melody. Sun catchers morph into sunlit meadows or abstract designs, their edges echoing the gentle curve of natural beauty.  Standing & hanging vases become vessels of color, hinting at hidden treasures of gratitude & wonder. Each piece, from a simple cheese plate to an elaborate sushi plate, becomes an invitation to slow down, to savor the ritual of everyday moments.

But my heart truly soars with the decorative pieces. They are my unbridled fusions of form and fantasy. Flowers & leaves frozen in time, tiny houses forming a community, whimsical creatures – dragons/elephants, emerging from the fiery depths – these are the stories I tell without words. They are odes to the unseen, whispers of the magic that lives just beyond our vision.

Ultimately, my art is a dialogue – with the fire that grants me its power, with the glass that reveals its hidden beauty, and with you, the audience. It’s an invitation to see the world anew, to find wonder in the everyday, to recognize the starlight trapped within glass, the whispers of the cosmos in a sun catcher.
