I took a class through the U of U continuing education and loved it. It was not until retirement from my mental health therapy practice that I started doing glass on my own, and was mostly self-taught at first. As time passed I learned more by doing more and continuing to learn.

I believe one of the wonderful things about glass art is that each artist’s personality is there in the work of art—I love that! Predicting what others will like is unpredictable; I do pieces which please me and I hope that they please others as well. It is interesting to me that you don’t know exactly what’s going to come out of the kiln when you fire a piece—I still have a sense of amazement at what heat can do to the glass.

When people view a piece of my glass art and I am able to tell them something about its creation, I think they are able to connect with both me and the art. Art has a story, and we create our own story with the art that we create. One thing I enjoy about creating glass art is the challenge. There’s always, always something new to learn; there are so many techniques.

What inspires me? I’m inspired by the types of glass I have available and what I might do with it, with the various tools and techniques I’ve learned.

My favorite color or favorite technique is what I am currently working on. It always changes. I try to create something in glass that is unique…something that makes it mine. The challenge of being able to take glass in any form and create something unique out of it…sometimes functional, sometimes decorative…is what I enjoy about being a glass artist.

Ann Lazerus allazerus@gmail.com 801-414-9650

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″
